Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, personable piano instructor with a solid foundation in music theory and piano technique. Because our teachers work closely with students and families, a warm, confident, outgoing, and friendly personality is essential for this position. Fox Music uses a structured, studio-wide curriculum and teaching methodology. This is not an independent-method teaching position. Instructors are expected to follow the assigned curriculum, lesson structure, terminology, and instructional procedures consistently, even when these differ from methods they have used previously. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about receiving coaching, implementing feedback promptly, and working within an established educational program. Applicants seeking autonomy over curriculum selection or teaching methodology will not be a good fit for this position. Current music students and applicants developing their teaching careers are encouraged to apply. A music degree and prior teaching experience are helpful but not required; musical proficiency, interpersonal skills, and demonstrated alignment with our instructional approach are more important than credentials or years of teaching experience. The ideal candidate is comfortable initiating conversation, building rapport quickly, and bringing positive energy to every lesson. They should be encouraging and engaging while still providing clear direction and maintaining an organized learning environment.
Qualified candidates must:
- Have a warm, confident, outgoing, and friendly personality
- Communicate comfortably and professionally with students, parents, and studio staff
- Build rapport with both children and adults and keep students actively engaged
- Bring positive, encouraging energy to each lesson
- Read standard piano notation fluently in both treble and bass clefs
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of scales, key signatures, rhythm, intervals, chords, and foundational music theory
- Have sufficient piano proficiency to confidently teach beginner and intermediate students
- Be receptive to training, feedback, and ongoing coaching
- Be willing to teach Fox Music's established curriculum and methodology consistently
- Be dependable, collaborative, and genuinely invested in each student's progress
- Commit to a consistent weekly teaching schedule
- Have reliable transportation to our Virginia Beach and Chesapeake locations
