Job Description
Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Physical Education Teacher to join our team at Bethalto East Elementary effective beginning August 2026. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship among elementary students. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop their physical abilities and self-confidence. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum that aligns with state standards and promotes physical fitness, fundamental motor skills, healthy habits, and lifelong wellness. Plan and conduct engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education lessons that meet the needs of students with varying abilities and skill levels. Assess and monitor student growth in physical skills, participation, and personal fitness, providing positive feedback and encouragement. Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that promotes cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. Teach and reinforce age-appropriate concepts related to health, wellness, movement, and physical activity. Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to enhance student learning and support school-wide initiatives. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for growth. Stay current with best practices in elementary physical education and participate in professional development opportunities. Ensure the safety, proper use, and maintenance of physical education equipment and facilities. Promote a culture of health, wellness, and active lifestyles within the school community through school events, wellness initiatives, and physical activity opportunities. Requirements Valid Professional Educator License with appropriate Physical Education Endorsement. Previous experience teaching physical education is preferred. Strong knowledge of physical education principles, practices, and safety guidelines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students. Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects diversity and fosters student growth. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices. CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
