The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes students' physical, social-emotional, and personal growth. The successful candidate will inspire students to develop lifelong habits of health and wellness while fostering teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, and confidence. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the mission of St. Mary Academy Bay View, the value of an all-girls education, and the Mercy values that guide our school community.

Our SchoolSt. Mary Academy Bay View is an all-girls, independent, Mercy Catholic school serving adiverse population of girls from Pre-K through Grade 12, located in Riverside, Rhode Island. A sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Education, St. Mary Academy Bay View, fosters academic excellence in an innovative and creative learning environment. For over 150 years, Bay View has empowered each student to be a confident, independent, compassionate, and socially conscious faith-filled young woman.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging physical education and health instruction that promotes lifelong wellness, physical fitness, healthy decision-making, and personal responsibility. Design, implement, and assess lessons that are developmentally appropriate and responsive to the diverse needs and abilities of students. Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Support students' social-emotional development while maintaining high expectations for respectful behavior, personal accountability, and positive relationships. Differentiate instruction and activities to promote success for all learners. Use Google Classroom and other instructional technologies to communicate class expectations, provide learning resources, and enhance student engagement. Collaborate with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student growth and the overall student experience. Supervise students assigned Physical Education classes through Independent Study. Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the division and school community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field required; master's degree preferred. Experience teaching physical education and health at the middle and/or upper school level is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of age-appropriate instructional practices and adolescent development. Ability to create engaging, active, and inclusive learning experiences. Strong classroom and group management skills. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and genuine enthusiasm for working with students and families.
