Job Description

The Penobscot Bay YMCA is expanding its childcare programming through an exciting new partnership with RSU 13 at South School in Rockland. This new location features larger classrooms, a spacious playground, and access to nature trails—creating an incredible environment for children, families, and staff. This position is employed by the Penobscot Bay YMCA and operates in partnership with RSU 13 at the South School location. We are seeking a Childcare Director to lead this program and help shape its future. This role oversees multiple classrooms, including our public Pre-K partnership, and offers a unique opportunity to build and grow a high-quality early learning program from the ground up. The Penobscot Bay YMCA is a community cornerstone where all people can connect, grow, and thrive. In this role, you bring that mission to life every day for the children and families we serve.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-2+ years of experience in childcare, education, or a related setting
  • Leadership experience or demonstrated interest in team development preferred
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and classroom practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment
  • Comfortable using basic computer systems or willingness to learn Required trainings include Mandated Reporter and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention (completed during onboarding), with CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within 30 days of hire.
