Student Life International Student Director (HEO) - Director of the Immigrant Student Center for Resources and Research (Student Affairs)
POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of the Immigrant Student Center for Resources and Research (ISC) provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive center dedicated to supporting immigrant, undocumented, asylum-seeking, mixed-status family, and first-generation immigrant students. The Director leads institutional efforts to promote access, belonging, persistence, and degree completion by developing innovative programs, providing individualized support, strengthening campus partnerships, and advancing policies and practices that foster an inclusive and welcoming campus environment. The Director plays a critical role in ensuring immigrant students receive holistic support through education, advocacy, case management, financial resource coordination, and community engagement while serving as the College's subject matter expert on issues impacting immigrant student success.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Immigrant Student Center aligned with institutional priorities for student access, retention, equity, and academic success.
  • Design and lead an annual strategic planning and assessment process that measures program effectiveness, student outcomes, and the overall impact of Center initiatives.
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze performance metrics to assess utilization, student engagement, retention, and program effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership for the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of educational programming, workshops, outreach initiatives, and campus events that support immigrant student success.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Immigrant Student Center, ensuring highquality, student-centered services and efficient administrative processes.
  • Supervise and provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for Center staff, interns, fellows, and student employees.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators to increase institutional knowledge regarding immigrant student needs, policies, and best practices.
  • Research, develop, and implement comprehensive resources, advocacy initiatives, and referral management systems that address the academic, financial, legal, and personal needs of immigrant students.
  • Coordinate case management and referral services by connecting students with appropriate campus and community resources while ensuring continuity of care and support.
  • Build and strengthen collaborative partnerships with academic departments, student support offices, community-based organizations, government agencies, and advocacy organizations that serve immigrant communities.
  • Oversee fellowship, internship, scholarship, leadership development, and other educational opportunities designed to enhance immigrant student engagement and career readiness.
  • Serve as the College's primary point of contact for the Senator José Peralta New York State DREAM Act (TAP) and TheDream.
US Scholarship, providing guidance to prospective and current students throughout the application process, coordinating institutional eligibility and certification requirements, collaborating with Financial Aid and Enrollment Management, and connecting students to additional financial resources that support college access, persistence, and degree completion.
  • Monitor local, state, and federal immigration policies, legislation, and higher education trends to ensure institutional compliance and timely dissemination of accurate information and resources.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding institutional policies, financial resources, scholarship opportunities, and administrative processes affecting undocumented and immigrant students.
  • Represent the College and the Immigrant Student Center at campus, university, community, and professional events while serving as the primary institutional advocate for immigrant student success.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Student Affairs departments, Communications, and external partners to expand outreach efforts and strengthen student support services.
  • Support grant development, external funding opportunities, assessment initiatives, and resource optimization to expand services and ensure long-term sustainability of the Center.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Social Work, Public Administration, Public Policy, Counseling, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success leading student support programs within a college or university setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local immigration policies affecting undocumented, DACA, asylum-seeking, TPS, refugee, and mixed-status family students.
  • Experience developing programs that support college access, persistence, retention, and completion for historically underserved student populations.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory, advising practices, case management, and higher education policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex policies, exercise sound judgment, and independently resolve sensitive student matters.
  • Experience developing strategic plans, assessment initiatives, and data-informed program evaluation processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse communities and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, project management, and supervisory experience.
  • Experience collaborating with community-based organizations, government agencies, and legal service providers serving immigrant populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including policy writing, reports, presentations, web content, and grant development.
  • Familiarity with CUNY policies, procedures, and student information systems is strongly preferred.

Provides leadership in the development of international student recruiting, orientation, and support programs Coordinates college-wide international study and collaboration projects, such as study abroad programs, programs for visiting delegations, and programs involving overseas institutional partners, fee-for-service clients, community organizations, governmental representatives and international organizations Creates goals and objectives that reflect Campus strategies; measures and evaluates performance and success Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range:
$109,519 - $117,971. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
