About Burlington Little School Burlington Little School (BLS) is a nonprofit 501(c) learning program dedicated to the healthy development of toddlers and preschool-aged children. Who We're Looking For Burlington Little School is seeking an Executive Director to lead our school community and help shape its future. As the organization's primary leader, the Executive Director oversees school operations, supports and develops staff, partners with families, works closely with the Board of Directors, and guides the long-term success of the school. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who builds trust through integrity, transparency, and open communication, while balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day problem solving. Key Responsibilities Leadership & School Operations
- Provide overall leadership and management of the school
- Foster a positive, inclusive and mission-driven culture
- Support and supervise teaching and administrative staff
- Ensure compliance with licensing, health, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain policies and procedures that support high-quality operations Staff Development
- Recruit, hire, onboard and retain qualified staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and support
- Promote professional growth and ongoing learning opportunities
- Build a collaborative and respectful team environment Family & Community Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for families
- Cultivate strong relationships with current and prospective families
- Partner with the Board of Directors, volunteers, and community stakeholders
- Represent the school within the local community Financial & Administrative Management
- Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Board
- Monitor financial performance and support long-term sustainability
- Oversee enrollment processes and operational planning
- Assist with fundraising, grant opportunities, and community partnerships Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the Board of Directors to advance the school's mission and vision
- Support long-term planning and organizational growth
- Identify opportunities to strengthen programs, operations, and community impact Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Early Childhood Education, Education, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Demonstrated leadership experience in early childhood education, childcare, nonprofit organizations, education or a related field
- Experience supervising, developing and supporting staff
- Experience managing budgets, operations, or organizational programs
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, families, board members, and community stakeholders
- Ability to lead with integrity, transparency and sound judgment
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism Preferred
- Experience in licensed childcare, preschool, or early learning environment
- Knowledge of Washington State licensing and compliance requirements
- Experience working with nonprofit boards and governance structures
- Experience leading organizational change, growth or continuous improvement efforts
- Experience with enrollment management, fundraising, grant writing, or community partnerships
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing educators
- Master's degree or equivalent in Early Childhood Education, Education, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
$82,321.00 annually (DOE) Benefits include:
