A primary function of this and every other job at the "J" is to ensure by whatever rational and legal means necessary that each member, guest, and visitor leave the "J" feeling just a little better than when they arrived. The lead teacher is expected to complete the full contract/enrollment year and be responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, and documenting a developmentally oriented early education program. They must perform duties and meet standards and principles set forth by the Arizona Department of Health Child Care Licensing, Arizona Early Learning Standards and/or Arizona Infant Toddler Guidelines, Quality First, and the JCCA Standards of Excellence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. A
working knowledge of the mission, goals, and policies of the Tucson Jewish Community Center and the Early Childhood Department and explaining and interpreting these to parents B. A representative of the ECE program and the Center; must always portray a professional image C. Provide a safe and nurturing environment conducive to exploration and experimentation of new ideas D. Plan developmentally appropriate experiences for children that encourage mental, physical, emotional, and social growth through one-to-one and group interaction E. Practice appropriate behavior management techniques to guide children F. Embrace the seven core elements of Sheva in everything we say and do G. Establish and maintain productive relationships with families, members, and faculty
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LEAD TEACHER
Documentation Keep accurate records for children, including portfolios, identifying information, allergies, pick-up information, anecdotals, attendance, and accidents, preparing and recording monthly and daily schedules, calendars, curriculum goals, and lesson plans Assess supplies and recommend what is needed for daily activities; organize space, equipment, and material before activities in a manner conducive to learning (i.e. themes, displays children's work); share in the cleaning of equipment, toys, kitchen, playground, etc.) Respect the confidentiality of each child, parent, faculty member, and all Center issues Family Engagement/Programming Establish professional communications with parents; conduct conferences twice a year (more often if needed); make parents feel welcome and at ease. Biyearly conferences will be offered to all families and faculty will provide documentation for the hours spent with families. Compensation is included in the salary. B. Participate in events listed below in the Requirement section. As part of the lead faculty contract, there will not be compensation for these events. C. Maintain open and ongoing communication with ECE Directors and accept additional duties or projects as designated D. Maintain the classroom childcare program software Mentoring, Continued Education, & Mandatory Requirements Carry out responsibilities in cooperation with other faculty members for the operation of the entire program as well as their classroom; demonstrating team effort and flexibility in dealing with other faculty members, supporting and assisting specialists Supervise, evaluate, and direct any faculty assigned to the class Participate in scheduled faculty meetings, planning sessions, and in-services Complete the yearly requirements for professional growth as required by the State Maintain current fingerprint, DES training, and infant/child CPR and First Aid certification Maintain professional requirements through the Arizona Early Childhood Workforce Registry
ECE LEAD FACULTY AS PROFESSIONALS
Work collaboratively with the ECE directors to achieve the goals of the ECE Support the directors in changing initiatives and directions Promote a consistent philosophical approach to educational practice, customer service, professional collaboration, teacher supervision, and overall center functioning

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field (maybe in the process of) Meet all educational and experience requirements set forth by the Arizona Department of Health Childcare Licensing Skills and Knowledge A. Ability to relate patiently, positively, and sensitively to children, parents, and other faculty members B. Ability to communicate and to understand and carry out written and verbal directions C. Display evidence of emotional maturity and stability, including the ability to handle difficult, emergency, and crisis situations and to use supervision constructively D. Ability to competently supervise and evaluate teachers assigned to classroom E. Ability to perform physical tasks associated with childcare, including but not limited to hearing and speaking, reading, swift movement, transitioning from varying indoor & outdoor locations, providing assistance by bending, lifting, crouching, carrying and/or reaching overhead F. Desire and ability to provide continuity of staffing during the entire 12-month ECE enrollment/contract year G. Desire to continue professional growth and training in early childhood and the ability to implement training and program goals and standards
