POSITION
Childcare Provider for Newtown Early Learning Center (NELC) 10-month position, located in Reed Intermediate School
START DATE
August 24, 2026
SCHEDULE:
Monday•Friday (approximately 8:00 a.m.•4:30 p.m.)
SALARY RANGE
$18.50•20.50/hour, depending upon equivalent experience The NELC provides in-district daycare and preschool programs for the staff of the Newtown Public Schools. Working under the direction of the program administrator and childcare supervisor, the childcare provider will assist in the daycare room working with children 8 weeks to 36 months old.
Key Responsibilities:
 Assist in creating a safe, nurturing, and clean environment for infants and toddlers (ages 8 weeks to 36 months). Supervise children closely during all activities, including playtime, meal times, and rest periods.  Responsibly manage essential daily care routines, including diapering, toilet training assistance, feeding (bottles and solid foods), and maintaining sleep schedules.  Work under the direction of the program administrator and site supervisor to implement age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.  Maintain friendly, professional, and open communication with coworkers, supervisors, and school district staff/parents.  Collaborate with the classroom team to maintain a structured daily routine that aligns with the established Board of Education calendar.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
 High School Diploma or GED required.  Proven dependability with the ability to strictly follow the 10-month teacher work calendar.  A friendly, positive, and patient personality suited for working with very young children and their families.  A strong work ethic, high level of energy, and physical stamina required to lift, bend, and actively engage with infants and toddlers.
Preferred Qualifications:
 Prior experience working with infants or toddlers in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or professional setting is a plus (but not required).  Current CPR/First Aid certification, or a willingness to obtain it upon hire.
