Job Description

Working hands-on facilities staff member needed to assist with the facility maintenance of a beautiful community center and preschool. The Facilities Assistant will support the Facilities Manager with the operations and maintenance of the building, building systems and equipment. S/he is responsible for performing multiple repair and maintenance tasks throughout the day, which could include, but are not limited to: carpentry work; electrical; plumbing; painting; HVAC; flooring; outdoor landscaping; janitorial support and general facility repairs. Strong communication, training, and problem-solving experience as well as a working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry are required.
Hours:
Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00am-4:30pm with a 30 minute lunch break, flexibility required for event days.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(include, but are not limited to): General maintenance and upkeep of the facility Assist with the care of classrooms, offices, and common areas Troubleshoot general problems Electrical repairs and maintenance: lightbulbs, wiring, circuit breakers, fuses Carpentry, painting &
General Construction:
woodwork, sanding, painting, etc. Set up and tear down for events
General Plumbing:
Toilets, faucets, fix leaks, etc.
Facility Repairs:
doors, doorknobs, locks, broken tiles, polish floors, staining, etc.
Outdoors:
landscaping and cleaning sidewalks and driveways, etc. Attend to members of staff promptly when called upon
QUALIFICATIONS
2 or more years of related work experience Knowledge and abilities in various repair and maintenance related works Attention to detail Being highly observant and security conscious Ability to solve problems Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic Must be a team player and treat co-workers with respect Ability to work under pressure Successful time management skills Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks Regular and reliable attendance is expected Ability to work occasional overtime and other shifts
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to reach and to lift materials weighing up to 70 lbs. Manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance are required. Ability to stand, walk, and move rapidly for an eight (8) hour work shift. Ability to bend, stoop, twist and turn, climb stairs and on trucks. Ability to perform repetitious arm and wrist movements. Mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. On occasion able to work other shifts and overtime. Ability to learn new tasks and procedures. Ability to move furniture and equipment.
