Job Description

Educational Pre-K Lead Teacher:
Qualifications:
  • Must be 19 years old or older
  • A high school diplomas
  • 6 semester hours or 90 clock hours approved pre-service training.
  • 9 clock hours of approved pre-service training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public.
  • Has completed a bachelor's degree from an approved College in Early Childhood Education (Preferred)
  • Must have one of the following: 1 year experience working under supervision with preschoolers in a licensed childcare center or 1 year of college or combination of experience and college that is equivalent to 1 year or holds an associates or higher degree with approved courses in early childhood education.

Maryland Childcare Credential Program Essential Functions:
These functions in this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum/ weekly lesson plans meeting the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the group.
  • Plan, prepare and implement activities related to the needs of each child making sure each child can explore, create and be successful each day.
  • Supervise and train assistant teachers, aides, and volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe and warm environment that is kept clean and organized that allows children to explore and grow.
  • Assess children on growth in the classroom and report to parents in a conference held twice a year.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, co works and directors.
  • Inform directors of any supplies and needs of the classroom.
  • Ensure that each child/parent/family is treated with respect and dignity.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of children in the classroom.
  • Maintain a daily schedule with a predictable routine that allows for transitions.
  • Use positive and age-appropriate behavior techniques in the classroom.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner reflecting the confidentiality of all children and their families ( weather at work or on personal time)
  • Complete continued educational training as required by law with Office of Childcare.
  • Maintain compliance with all Maryland State Department of Education, Office of Childcare Laws (COMAR)
  • Administer First Aid and CPR as appropriate
  • Complete the required training in the areas of child development, curriculum, health/safety/nutrition, special needs, professionalism, and communication.
  • Participate, withhold, and actively work towards maintain a level 4 or higher with MSDE Credentialing Program (if it becomes active again)
