SUMMARY The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate preschool program that supports the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development of young children in their classroom. The Lead Teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment aligned with Michigan childcare licensing requirements and applicable early childhood program standards. The position is responsible for classroom leadership, curriculum implementation, child assessment, family communication, and supervision of classroom support staff.
Meets Michigan licensing requirements for a Lead Caregiver/Lead Teacher in a preschool classroom Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field preferred Experience working with preschool-aged children required Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain Ability to meet all state licensing, background check, and fingerprinting requirements
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Classroom Management Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with best practices in early childhood education. Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports children's growth and independence Manage daily classroom routines, transitions, and activities Provide active supervision of children at all times Maintain positive classroom behavior supports and appropriate discipline practices Adapt instruction and activities to meet individual student needs Curriculum & Assessment Implement approved preschool curriculum and instructional materials Conduct ongoing child observations and developmental assessments Maintain accurate student records, portfolios, and documentation Use assessment data to support student growth and program planning Prepare lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with program goals and standards Family Engagement & Communication Maintain positive and professional communication with families Conduct parent conferences and provide regular updates regarding student progress Support family engagement activities and events Provide families with information regarding child development and available resources Staff Collaboration & Supervision Provide direction and support to classroom aides and volunteers Collaborate with other Early Childhood Center staff and administrators Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program planning activities Support consistent implementation of program procedures and expectations Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance Maintain compliance with all Michigan childcare licensing rules and program requirements Ensure classroom compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and supervision standards Maintain required records and documentation related to licensing and program operations Report concerns regarding child safety, health, or welfare in accordance with district policy and legal requirements Environment & Materials Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment Prepare and maintain instructional materials, centers and supplies Monitor classroom inventory and request needed materials and equipment Other Duties Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families Participate in district and program initiatives as assigned Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or designee, consistent with the nature of this position
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Preschool Teacher must be able to frequently sit on the floor, stand, bend, lift, carry, and actively engage with young children. The employee may regularly lift and carry children or classroom materials weighing up to forty pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment consists primarily of preschool classrooms and early childhood learning environments with moderate noise levels and constant interaction with young children.
