Job Title :
Child Care Teacher (Project Beginnings licensed program - children 6 weeks to 33 months) Reports to : Child Care Coordinator | Overseen by: Community Education Director
POSITION SUMMARY
: The Child Care Teacher provides direction for the program and classroom, implements the approved curriculum, and ensures a high-quality experience for children and families that aligns with K-M's Commitment to Excellence and DHS licensing standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Implements the curriculum in accordance with established guidelines and best practices. Designs and executes daily lesson/activity plans that are developmentally appropriate. Supervises children and maintains a safe, supportive environment in the classroom and during all activities. Adheres to all K-M policies and DHS regulations related to child safety, supervision, and program operations. Fosters a positive and encouraging learning environment at all times. Conducts ongoing, systematic observations and assessments of each child's development and progress. Utilize proactive strategies and interventions to effectively manage student behavior in the classroom. Schedules and leads parent conferences, maintaining open and effective communication with families. Encourages parental engagement and participation in program activities. Ensures the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the program site and equipment. Maintains accurate and up-to-date program records as required by DHS and K-M policies. Actively participates in family nights, program events, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Meets DHS licensing requirements for a Child Care Teacher, which include: At least 18 years old A high school or General education Development (GED) diploma.
Experience:
4, 160 hours as an assistant teacher
Education:
24 quarter credits (16 semester credits) Must pass an enhanced background check as required by DHS upon hire. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training completed within 30 days of hire. Previous experience in a developmental child care setting is preferred. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and foster positive, authentic relationships with children and families from various backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a wide range of activities, both indoor and outdoor. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move quickly to ensure children's safety. Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, and sitting on the floor are required to engage with children. Ensures continuous visual and auditory supervision of children to maintain a safe and secure environment. Ability to remain calm, patient, and responsive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
