Assistant Director/ Operations Manager Reports To:

Full-Time Position Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing the daily staff operations of Wee Pals Child Care Center, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and high-quality environment for children, staff, and families. This role focuses on staff management and supervision while supporting administrative, financial, and compliance functions. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to maintain and improve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Leadership and Development:
Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluation of daycare staff. Supervise daily activities and ensure staff adhere to policies, procedures, and licensing requirements. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for staff. Schedule and coordinate staff shifts to maintain appropriate child-to-staff ratios and serve as a back-up teacher when necessary. Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment. Conduct regular staff meetings to provide guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Operations Management:
Oversee daily operations to ensure compliance with licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and organizational policies. Oversee facility maintenance, security, and cleanliness to provide a safe environment for children and staff. Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures. Manage inventory and ordering of supplies and resources needed for daily operations.
Family Engagement:
Act as a primary point of contact for parents and guardians, addressing concerns and ensuring customer satisfaction. Coordinate events and activities that promote positive relationships with families and the local community.
Financial & Administrative Support:
Assist in budget planning and expense monitoring to ensure financial sustainability. Support grant applications, fundraising initiatives, and donor relations. Collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic planning and operational improvements.
Compliance and Safety:
Maintain accurate records in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Conduct regular audits to ensure safety standards are met. Develop and implement emergency procedures and conduct regular drills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, or a related field. 1-5 years of experience in childcare, preferably in management or a similar leadership role. Must be Director/Teacher qualified under MN DHS Rule 3/ Minnesota Rules Chapter 9503. Strong understanding of childcare licensing regulations and safety protocols.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Extensive standing and walking; sitting on the floor and on low (12) chairs. Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling. Lifting and carrying children of all ages up to 50 pounds.
