About Laurel Hill School Laurel Hill School is an independent school serving children from our infant room through Grade 8 on Long Island. We're small on purpose. Our teachers know their students — their strengths, their worries, and what a hard week looks like for them — and that knowledge is the thing our families value most. Our toddler rooms are where that starts to show. We're hiring a Toddler Teacher who can run a calm, busy room of 18-month to 3-year-olds. Someone who delights in the first sentences and the first friendships, and sends every child on to our 3's ready and sure of themselves. What you'll do Lead a small group of toddlers through a warm, predictable day — arrival, meals and snacks, play, outdoor time, and rest — with a teaching assistant beside you Hold New York State OCFS standards in the room at all times: supervision, ratios (1:5, group of 12), health practices, and safe rest Plan and lead age-appropriate experiences that build language, movement, early social skills, and independence — songs and stories, sensory play, simple art, and plenty of narrated everyday moments Guide toddler behavior with patience: naming feelings, handling biting and big emotions calmly, and teaching sharing and turn-taking a little at a time Support each child's self-help steps — feeding themselves, hand-washing, and toilet learning — on the family's timeline and in partnership with them Send families a daily report and talk with them personally at drop-off and pick-up, so they always know how the day went Observe and record each child's development using the school's observation tools, and flag anything worth a closer look to the Preschool Director Prepare each child for the move up to our PreK 3's, and work with that teacher on a smooth handoff Keep the toddler room clean, sanitized, organized, and stocked Work as a close team with the room's teaching assistant, and with the Preschool Director on anything affecting a child or family Complete required OCFS training hours, and carry out your duties as a mandated reporter What we're looking for Required — New York State OCFS qualifications for an infant/toddler group teacher, meaning one of the following: Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field, plus 1 year of experience caring for infants and toddlers; or Infant/Toddler CDA (or another OCFS-recognized infant/toddler credential), plus 2 years of experience caring for children; or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, plus 2 years of experience, at least one of them with infants or toddlers; or 9 college credits in Early Childhood or Child Development with a plan of study toward a credential or degree in the field, plus 2 years of experience, at least one of them with infants or toddlers

Ability to pass all pre-employment screening, including OCFS-required background clearances and a medical statement Preferred Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Experience leading a toddler room in an OCFS-licensed child care center Infant/child CPR and first-aid certification What makes someone thrive here: the patience to say "gentle hands" for the tenth time in the same warm voice, and real joy in a two-year-old's ideas.
