Position summary The Childcare Floater provides dependable classroom coverage throughout the day, including staff lunch breaks and other scheduled or unexpected staffing needs. The Floater supports teachers, maintains active supervision, and helps children follow their classroom routines in a safe, caring learning environment. Reports to Director, Assistant Director, or designated administrator. Key responsibilities Relieve classroom staff for scheduled lunch breaks and return coverage to the assigned teacher on time. Confirm the number of children, their locations, immediate needs, and any important instructions before taking over. Provide classroom coverage when a teacher steps out, during transitions, or when administration reassigns staff to meet operational needs. Never leave children without authorized supervision. Assist classroom teachers with learning activities, small groups, play, toileting and diapering when assigned, handwashing, meals, rest time, cleanup, and transitions, following each child's care plan and classroom routine. Maintain active sight and sound supervision, complete head counts during transitions, and follow assigned classroom ratios and capacity requirements. Alert administration promptly if coverage or ratios are at risk. Use positive guidance and age appropriate interactions. Help children feel welcome and included across toddler, preschool, 4K, and school age classrooms as assigned and qualified. Prepare materials, sanitize shared surfaces and equipment, organize supplies, and help keep classrooms and common spaces clean and ready for children. Follow Kinder Joy Learning Academy policies for health, safety, emergency response, child release, confidentiality, incident reporting, and parent communication. Report injuries, concerns, or suspected abuse promptly through the required channels. Communicate relevant observations and care updates to the lead teacher or administrator at the end of each coverage period. Complete required attendance, care, or incident records accurately and on time. Attend required training and staff meetings and perform other related classroom support duties assigned by administration. Qualifications and expectations Meet applicable South Carolina childcare licensing requirements and Kinder Joy Learning Academy hiring, background check, and training requirements for assigned duties. Be able to work across assigned age groups and follow classroom specific procedures. Communicate clearly, work cooperatively with teachers and administrators, and adapt to changes in classroom assignments. Be able to perform essential childcare duties, including moving between classrooms, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, and responding to children's routine and emergency needs, with reasonable accommodation when applicable. Schedule and assignment Schedule, work location, and classroom assignments are set by administration based on enrollment, staffing, and program needs. Lunch relief and classroom coverage are core duties of this position.
