In this vital role, you will provide targeted reading support to students across elementary and middle school grades, helping them develop essential literacy skills and foster a love for reading. Your expertise will empower students to overcome reading challenges, improve comprehension, and build confidence in their academic journey. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives through innovative instructional strategies and personalized support. The Reading Interventionist is responsible for planning and coordinating the elementary and/or middle school reading and language arts program.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
Duties of this position include but are not limited to: 1. Coordinate the Academy's reading and language arts and primary reading program. 2. Assist Classroom Teachers in planning reading/language arts program for elementary and/or middle school programs. 3. Assist all teachers with teaching/learning strategies that promote comprehension in subject areas. 4. Model reading and language arts instruction in elementary and/or middle school classrooms. 5. Coordinate the developmental aspects of the elementary and/or middle school programs. 6. Collaboratively select and coordinate (with the approval of the Principal) all reading and language arts materials used in the classrooms. 7. Assist in assuring continuity between regular programs and other special areas. 8. Assist teachers with instructional interventions. 9. Implement in the Academy the curriculum outcomes associated with reading and language arts. 10. Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports. 11. Submit appropriate data and reports. 12. Interpret the Academy's reading/learning program for staff, parents and members of the community. 13. Monitor student progress toward achieving instructional objectives and goals. 14. Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis. 15. Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Code and administrative and/or Academy policies. 16. Meet professional responsibilities. 17. Maintain and upgrade professional skills. 18. Promote and maintain positive Academy-staff and pupil-teacher-parent relationships. 19. Adhere to the teacher code of conduct. 20. Support and implement the discipline philosophy of the Academy, as well as disciplinary procedures designed for individual students. 21. Maintain confidentiality regarding students. 22. Attend and participate in all required in-service training sessions and become familiar with the inclusion philosophy and procedures as outlined in AIMS' policy. 23. Ensure adherence to safety procedures. 24. Other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution or BR (Reading) endorsement; master's degree in language arts preferred. 2. Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule. 3. Two years of teaching experience. 4. Experience with elementary/middle school programs dependent on area of assignment. 5. Experience with integrated curriculum. 6. Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety Legislation.
