A Reading Teacher teaches reading skills to elementary and secondary school students. Helps students with reading, writing and pronouncing words. Often works with students with learning disabilities.
To support instruction grounded in evidence-based instructional practices and supplemental learning interventions consistent with
WPS' MTSS
model to assist Title 1 and/or At-Risk students in reaching grade-level proficiency.

Building Principal and District Curriculum Director Qualifications:
Current valid teaching certification in the assigned grade level. Completion of advanced coursework in reading or professional development in evidence-based literacy instructional strategies. Experience as a successful classroom teacher. Sufficient knowledge of scientifically based reading research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and infusing reading strategies into content area instruction, and data management skills. Ability to lead a school's MTSS model, including (but not limited to): coordination of efforts by paraprofessionals, assisting with progress monitoring, collecting, organizing, and communicating learning data, recommending evidence-based interventions, etc. Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with administration, peers, parents, and students. Working knowledge of FERPA/HIPPA and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (non-prioritized): Performs interventions with Tier 2 and Tier 3 student groups Provides Professional Development in intervention strategies and practices for teachers and paraprofessionals using the five major reading components (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) based on an analysis of pupil performance data. Administers and analyzes instructional assessments. Creates schedules for student interventions. Uses and supervises progress monitoring. Maintains tiered student intervention group assignments in collaboration with teachers Prepares materials and lessons for interventions. Oversees and manages teacher student data for interventions Model effective instructional strategies for teachers and paraprofessionals. Trains teachers in data analysis and using data for interventions Works with teachers to ensure that comprehensive intervention programs are implemented with fidelity. Helps lead and support reading leadership teams at the school. Continues to increase his or her knowledge base in best practices in reading instruction and intervention through participation in Professional Development. Communicates regularly with parents on individual student intervention needs and progress. Maintains and communicates Individual Reading Intervention Plans (IRIP) Collaborates in school-wide initiatives and decisions. Demonstrates professional behavior in manner and appearance. Regular, timely, and predictable attendance.
Evaluation:
