SouthSide Elementary Charter School is seeking a Reading Specialist who is both a strong instructor and an instructional leader. This role goes beyond intervention, you will directly impact student outcomes while helping to strengthen literacy instruction across the entire school. We are actively building a structured, Science of Reading-aligned literacy program and use 95 Percent Group resources as a key component of our intervention and instructional approach. What You'll Do Provide targeted, high-impact reading intervention to students in grades K-5 Use real-time data to group students, monitor progress, and accelerate achievement Implement structured literacy interventions aligned to the Science of Reading, including 95 Percent Group programs and resources Coach and support teachers through modeling, feedback, and collaborative planning Help strengthen Tier II/Tier III systems within an MTSS framework Partner with families to support literacy development at home Why This Role Matters You will play a critical role in closing foundational reading gaps for students who need it most You will help shape how literacy is taught across the building—not just in intervention You will work in a school that is actively improving and investing in high-quality curriculum and systems Your work will directly impact student achievement and long-term success What We're Looking For A strong literacy educator who knows how to accelerate struggling readers Someone who is confident using data to drive instruction and decisions An educator who can both support and push colleagues to improve practice A problem-solver with urgency around student outcomes A deep belief that all students can achieve at high levels with the right instruction Qualifications Master's degree in Literacy/Reading or related field Rhode Island Reading Specialist certification At least 3 years of experience in elementary literacy instruction Trained in Science of Reading Experience with structured literacy and evidence-based programs aligned to the Science of Reading (e.g., 95 Percent Group, Orton-Gillingham, Fundations, or similar ) Strong collaboration and communication skills
