Terms/Schedule School Year Calendar Appointment Type Full Time Description Essential Functions:
Develop and implement PreK-5 reading curriculum. Direct the development and implementation of the comprehensive PreK-5 developmental reading programs. Coordinate the implementation and effective use of literacy instructional materials to support the PreK-5 literacy key perforate indicator goals. Serve as consultant to other curriculum committees on such reading related areas as textbool readability, vocabulary & concept development and study skills preparation. Assist with facilitating school-community communication, interest, and involvement in the reading program. Act as resource person to instructional staff. Provide leadership for district personnel in meeting reading needs of all students. Serve as a consultant to support school improvement teams in addressing literacy needs in the district. Work with the Director of Learning to conduct needs assessment and plan appropriate staff development in the area of literacy. Conduct professional development sessions and demonstrations pertinent to 4K-5 literacy instruction. Remain current in research and issues related to literacy and recommend professional materials to colleagues. Work with administrators to support and implement the reading curriculum. Coordinate the development, implementation and administration of the district's reading program goals. Implement the district's compliance with Title 1 plan in conjunction with building principals. Help classroom and reading resource teachers improve their reading instruction techniques, upon request of the building principals. Facilitate discussions with individuals, teams, and school staff to appropriately use data. Conduct annual evaluation of reading curriculum as it impacts reading achievement. Monitor implementation of the reading curriculum in alignment with testing policy and curriculum objectives. Select appropriate assessment procedures to mentor student progress in terms of objective student outcomes. Assist with the interpretation of student needs and progress to classroom teachers, administrators and parents. Direct the preparation of the Annual Report of the Reading Program to the School Board. Coordinate and direct the evaluation of the literacy curriculum on an ongoing basis. Coordinate literacy curriculum and other literacy programs with other district support services. Assist with the coordination of special systems for identifying, diagnosing, serving, monitoring and evaluating the remedial, corrective adaptive, enrichment and accelerated reading needs for students. Assist with the coordination between regular and special (Title 1, ESOL & Special Education) district programs. Meet regularly with the Director of Curriculum and Assessment and the Director of Learning to report progress, problem solve, and plan for next steps. Administer Title 1 and other special programs to ensure coordination with the district wide literacy program. Provide collaborative leadership to support the development and effective of IST-Literacy Resource teacher staff. Operate district program in compliance with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Title 1 regulations. Monitor budget with controller. Recommend adoption, purchase, inventory of all supplies, materials and equipment. Determine program revisions in consultation with parent Advisory council, instructional staff, administrations and DPI. Represent the district in communication with non-public schools, CESA 6 and DPI. Interpret student needs and progress in literacy support to the classroom teacher and the parents. Devise and maintain such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job. Develop procedures to monitor student progress in literacy in terms of objective student outcomes. Maintain active involvement in professional organizations. Monitor the implementation of the literacy curriculum ensuring Science of Reading principles are followed. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Learning.
Other Responsibilites:
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 - Drug-free Workplace throughout his/her employment in the district. All other duties as assigned (5%)
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
1. Master's degree and valid Wisconsin teacher's certification (1317). 2. Five years of experience as reading teacher/specialist. 3. Experience in curricular leadership role preferred. 4. Experience with Reading Recovery training preferred.
