Full Job Description Job Summary:
Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory institution dedicated to providing girls and young women with an exceptional, values‑based education that inspires them to become compassionate leaders in their communities and the world. Under the direction of the High School Principal, the Science Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering rigorous, engaging, and developmentally appropriate science instruction aligned with the Academy's mission and academic standards. The teacher will foster a supportive, creative, and positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong foundation in scientific concepts and principles. Responsibilities include planning and implementing effective lesson plans, actively supervising students to ensure their safety and well‑being, maintaining open and consistent communication with administration and families regarding student progress, behavior, and development, and completing required documentation such as assessments, student work records, and progress reports. The ideal candidate is committed to nurturing the intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth of young women while cultivating a dynamic classroom atmosphere where students feel empowered to explore, question, and thrive.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science, Education, or related field. One year or more of teaching science experience at the High School Level - OR An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed above. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary. Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and clients. Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy. Able to work all shifts and extended hours. Must reside on Oahu.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or related field. Current Hawaii State Teaching License (HTSB certification) or the ability to obtain one. Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies. Experience integrating hands-on, inquiry-based or lab-based instruction. Demonstrated ability to create an engaging, student-centered learning environment.
Other Qualifications:
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments. Experience to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgement. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others. Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information. Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Management (70%) Supports student learning and development through written, verbal and hands- on coaching and modeling in a positive and supportive manner. Work in close harmony with the administration and with each other. Be responsible for the assigned students' instruction. Responsible for the immediate supervision and safety of students during class time, advisory, the assigned time of supervision duty, and on off-campus school excursions. Review and administer correction in cases of student misconduct. Require mannerly and respectful behavior from students. Respect individual differences among students and formulate plans for providing for these differences. Attend all faculty, department and parent-teacher meetings. Be responsible for the cleanliness of the classroom. Maintain high standards of professional and personal conduct, including on-line presence. Communicate via email or phone with students only for school-related concerns. Participate/attend consultation meetings with parents and students to address concerns or other class related concerns. Teachers of Grades 7-12 will have supervisory duties for recess or lunch period and auto-line as assigned by the Administration. Serve as an advisorship of one student club as necessary. Create and Prepare lessons plans. Keep accurate records of attendance and class work, submitting student evaluations, including report cards and grade updates, at scheduled times. Distribute and collect required forms, records or correspondence. School Activities (20%) Responsible to attend all masses and faculty meetings; where applicable teacher will attend faculty in-service training sessions, retreats, assemblies, and school functions to include: Academy ceremonies such as graduation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement, Spring Open House, Fall Open House, Faculty Beginning of the School Year In-Service, Faculty Retreat, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Annual Conference for Catholic Educators, Faith Formation, admissions testing, parent events and supervision of Academy-sponsored student events such as dances, Freshman Mother/Daughter Banquet, Sophomore Father/Daughter; Junior Prom, Senior Prom, Senior Ohana Luncheon, Academy Uncorked, and performances. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%) Serves as community relations liaison for company. Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
