Job Description

Love Teaching Science? Need a Flexible Schedule? Want to Make a BIG Impact? SparkPoint Innovations is looking for an enthusiastic educator to lead our in-school astronomy experience, Orbit Earth Expo , in elementary and middle schools across the Chicagoland area . If you love teaching, enjoy working with kids, and want a high-energy, flexible role that fits around your life, this could be a perfect opportunity!
What You'll Do:
Teach engaging, hands-on astronomy programs in schools (K-8)—no lesson planning or grading required! Travel to schools (typically within a three-hour radius of your home). Some visits may include overnight stays (paid by the company). Set up and break down materials (requires lifting 30-50 lbs ). Actively reach out to schools to book your own programs —the more schools you bring in, the more work you get! Help spread the word by attending conferences and promoting Orbit Earth Expo.
What We Offer:
$400 per teaching day , plus mileage reimbursement. Completely flexible scheduling - you provide blackout dates that don't work for you. No weekend commitments —perfect for parents, retirees, or those with another job. These bookings take place during the traditional school day! Paid training included —we set you up for success! A role that brings the joy of teaching without the pressures of testing or admin work. Marketing support from our team —we provide materials and assistance, but your drive to book schools will determine your schedule.
Who We're Looking For:
Experienced teacher (classroom experience preferred). Energetic presenter with a big personality and a great sense of humor. Self-motivated go-getter who enjoys networking with schools and securing bookings. Passionate about making science fun, engaging, and memorable for kids. "I've never seen kids so excited about earth science! This program makes a huge impact, and I love being part of it." - Former Orbit Earth Expo Teacher This isn't your typical teaching job—it's a chance to bring science to life in an unforgettable way!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What materials are provided? Am I purchasing supplies out of pocket? Everything is provided! It's not like your classroom days - SparkPoint will make sure you have everything you need. Will I be creating lessons? Only if that's your side hobby! We provide full scripts and materials that you can adapt to your teaching style. Can I stay in the classroom and do this job? I have lots of leave saved up! No. This position takes place during the school day and we plan to schedule more bookings than you have leave! How big is the teaching kit? Where is it stored? The entire program will fit in a car. You will house the materials in your home so that you have easy access for bookings. Will I have to pay for travel? No. Our schools cover your mileage and food/lodging costs for overnight stays. How many days a week will I be teaching? Could be 4 days, could be zero! You and the school will decide your schedule. You will know your school days at least 3-4 weeks in advance. Where will I be teaching? We will be primarily marketing within the Chicagoland area but may also include southeastern Wisconsin (Milwaukee and Madison) and northwestern Indiana. You will help to determine where we market. Will I be working evenings or weekends? You choose your own schedule for marketing time. Conferences occasionally include evenings or Saturdays. Some schools ask us to stay for STEM Nights (extra pay for you!). Interested?
