Organization Information The Nelson County Schools, in partnership with the communities we serve, provide innovative and diverse academic programs in conjunction with individualized instructional services. These programs and services are designed to guide students successfully through their educational programs. The Nelson County School District includes one high school, two middle schools, two K-8 schools, one alternative school and three elementary schools, with a total enrollment of almost 5,000 students. A second high school is under construction and will open for the 2012-2013 school term. A Site Based Decision Making Council governs each school. In addition a learning center for preschool age children opened in 2011. The high school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and schools. High School students have access to the Area Technology Centered located on campus.
