NE15 Position Summary TRIO Upward Bound Temporary Instructors are appointed for the Upward Bound summer program. The primary duty is to provide effective teaching of core content courses to engage students in hands-on activities that will require critical thinking and/or labs in the qualified discipline.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the TRIO Upward Bound Director and is responsible for providing instruction curriculum with a team of instructors. Maintains accurate course description information (syllabus and lesson plans). Completes required reports, administer pre-and post-tests, supervise and provide instructional assistance to student study groups, and other duties assigned by TRIO Upward Bound Advisor, and Project Director. Creates and implements a syllabus for the appropriate subject (template provided). Builds curriculum using guidelines from the TRIO Upward Bound Program Advisor. Provide a list of classroom supplies as needed to Program Director. Provide interactive classroom and lab instruction (if needed). Monitor and record student performance on a weekly basis (grade sheet template provided) Participate in the summer instructor orientation, all pre-program preparation meetings. In-class work is preferred. Homework is not encouraged; actual class time is between 1 and 1.5 hours, depending on subject. Establish a positive, safe, and motivating classroom environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in discipline related to areas required for summer courses; teaching experience preferred: Desired Instruction areas (not limited to): Science, Mathematics) Experience working with diverse populations-low-income, first-generation, students of color, and/or disabled students is required. Unofficial transcripts may be attached to this application. Official transcripts must be sent to Human Resources upon hire.
