Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through both Suffolk's Beacon program and through on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more Veterans and military-connected students than any other college in the SUNY system. Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (10-month), tenure-track faculty appointment beginning in the Spring 2027 semester at the Eastern Campus in Riverhead. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs. The Department of Mathematics and Science at the Eastern Campus seeks applicants to serve as the Mathematics and Science Learning Center Coordinator and to teach Mathematics. The successful candidate must have the ability to teach the full range of courses taught by the department, and must demonstrate the ability to communicate Mathematics to students of all levels. Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and promote the operations of the Mathematics and Science Learning Center. Teach one 3-credit Mathematics course per semester and provide 28 tutoring/administrative hours per week over a five-day schedule during the fall and spring semesters. A 35-hour work week is required outside of the defined fall and spring semester. Work year follows the Unit III FA schedule under the title "Coordinator of Skills Center," with 12 credits of reassigned time granted per semester in recognition of these duties. Upon mutual agreement between the coordinator and their immediate supervisor, the work year may be shifted to begin no more than ten (10) working days before September 1 and end the same number of working days before June 30. The coordinator must be available to return to campus up to two weeks prior to the fall semester and one week prior to the spring semester to prepare tutoring schedules and ensure facilities are ready for student service, as guided by the Unit III FA schedule provisions. Provide academic tutoring in Mathematics courses spanning the department's complete curriculum, from remedial coursework through advanced topics such as calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. Supervise tutors and coordinate schedules for all Mathematics and Science tutoring services. Maintain a student usage database and provide reports to inform Learning Center planning and resource allocation, as well as to meet reporting needs for the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness. Provide and coordinate alternate testing services for Mathematics and Science courses. Collaborate with campus academic and student affairs administrators to schedule events that support student learning. Collaborate with the Academic Skills Center to help provide services to students with disabilities and special needs. Actively participate in departmental, campus, and college committees and initiatives, including academic assessment and curriculum development efforts. Assist the Academic Chair with the development and implementation of special programs and events coordinated by the Center and the Mathematics and Science Department. Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Chair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A

Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics.is required. Preferred Ph. D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics Grant writing experience. Integration of technology into teaching. Teaching experience at the community college level.

HIRING SALARY

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College. The New York State Retirement and Social Security Law requires retirees of a public pension plan within the State or City of New York to disclose prior public employment and pension plan history for the purpose of establishing a retiree's eligibility for employment.
