Job Description:
The mission of the Academies of Loudoun is to empower students to explore, research, collaborate, innovate, and to make meaningful contributions to the world in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).?The Academies of Loudoun is comprised of three academies: Academy of Engineering & Technology (AET) Academy of Science (AOS) Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA) Teachers at the Academies of Loudoun must be ready to deliver advanced academic content and quality instruction to students who have made a commitment to a challenging STEM program.?They should also be willing to collaboratively plan and develop curriculum and engage in regular intentional conversations around instruction and data analysis. Within the AET program, students pursue academic pathways in the fields engineering, information technology/computer science, or entrepreneurship. Teachers promote creativity and innovation through problem solving and cross curricular projects. Students use advanced software, prototyping tools, and other resources that prepare them for related fields. The rigorous academic coursework prepares students to be advanced practitioners of the engineering design process, and/or other systems thinking practices.?All courses taught are honors-level or above. In the AET program, students can pursue academic STEM pathways in the fields of engineering, information technology/computer science (ITCS), or entrepreneurship. Within the ITCS pathway, teachers must be able to teach CS 1 (object oriented programming), AP Computer Science A with data structures, and junior and senior Computer Science Research. These courses are specifically designed for
AET ITCS
students who wish to engage in an intensive study of computer science. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:? Demonstrates strong interest and ability to collaborate with the instructional team to develop cross-curricular research themes and problem-based learning content. Demonstrates content expertise and experience required to teach advanced levels of Computer Science through the AP level and beyond, including independent CS-related research. Demonstrates knowledge of modern instructional pedagogy, with the ability to deliver student centered instruction in a welcoming classroom environment. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents. Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure that the environment is conducive to the learning process and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate on a daily basis with other members of the team to plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities. Pursues professional growth through an ongoing program of reading and research, attendance at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and/or completing advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Collaborates with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed. Qualifications Below are the qualifications for this position: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college. Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in appropriate subject area (Mathematics and/or Computer Science). Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, materials, equipment of instructional specialty assigned, and methodology of effective teaching. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning. Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications. Preference Research and/or industry experience and/or certification in one or more of the following fields: Machine learning, mobile and web application development, quantum computing, cloud computing, game development, cybersecurity or other relevant computing domain. Experience with Python, C++, R, C#, or industry relevant programming languages. Experience with mentoring student research. Physical Requirements The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
