Job Description

Science Teacher (Grades 7-8)
Needed Location:
Williston Central School This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration. Internal candidates will also be prioritized over external applicants during this initial seven-day window. Williston Central School (WCS) is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE), faculty-level Science Teacher to join our middle-level general education team starting FY27. We are looking for a passionate, hands-on educator to support approximately 70 students within a collaborative teaming environment. This position is critical to fostering a growth mindset and scientific curiosity through the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) while serving as a core mentor for students through our advisory program. Primary Responsibilities Teaching engaging, hands-on science units aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Tracking student learning through formative and summative assessments using a proficiency-based model. Facilitating a student advisory, building strong relationships, and monitoring the holistic growth of a core group of students. Embedding literacy instruction into science content, including writing instruction, literature groups, and vocabulary development. Collaborating with science colleagues and the broader grade-level team to ensure instructional coherence. Utilizing technology to enhance instruction and engage 21st-century learners. Communicating proactively and collaboratively with families regarding student progress and classroom initiatives. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Current Vermont Professional Educators License with a Middle Level Science endorsement (additional endorsement in a second area preferred). Strong science content knowledge and experience in middle-level instruction. Deep understanding of NGSS and proficiency-based grading practices. Proven ability to implement effective classroom management techniques. Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility, and a high-level problem-solving mindset. Commitment to equitable instructional practices and an exemplary work ethic. Ability to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and families.
