Job Description

Computer Science Instructor (pool) Wenatchee Valley College is seeking part-time faculty to join its professional technical and academic instructional team, teaching courses in Computer Science, programming, cybersecurity, and related computer technology areas. The successful candidate may teach a combination of in-person, hybrid, and online courses, depending on program need. Computer Science and Computer Technology are important disciplines in WVC's commitment to providing career-connected education, transfer pathways, and workforce-aligned technical training. These courses support students preparing for further study, entry-level employment, advancement in technology-related fields, and applied skills needed across multiple industries.
Note :
Employment of individuals who reside outside the state of Washington requires prior approval from both human resources and the college president. Absent such approval, the college will not hire out-of-state employees.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, modify, and deliver course content, including syllabi, assignments, presentations, learning activities, and assessments, in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes. Provide appropriately challenging instruction that supports student learning, persistence, and success. Teach assigned courses in accordance with college expectations, approved curriculum, and quarterly schedules. Use inclusive, student-centered teaching practices that support a diverse community college student population. Assess student learning using appropriate methods and provide timely feedback to students. Maintain accurate student records and submit grades by established deadlines. Use WVC-supported instructional technology, including Canvas or other learning management systems, as appropriate. Communicate regularly with students and maintain availability for student consultation. Refer students to appropriate college support services when needed. Collaborate with program faculty, staff, and administration to support course quality, curriculum continuity, and student success. Stay current with emerging practices, tools, and trends in computer science, programming, cybersecurity, and technology education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or a closely related field; or Bachelor's degree in a related field with significant at least 10 years professional experience in computer science, programming, cybersecurity, information technology, or a closely related area; or A combination of education, industry experience, certifications, and demonstrated teaching/training ability that supports effective instruction in the assigned discipline. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching or training adult learners, community college students, or workforce learners. Experience teaching in online, hybrid, or technology-supported learning environments. Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system. Professional experience in programming, software development, cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, database management, or related technology fields. Industry-recognized certifications related to cybersecurity, networking, cloud computing, programming, or information technology. Demonstrated ability to support students from varied educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds. Commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Ability to connect classroom learning to real-world technology applications and career pathways. The Successful Candidate Must Demonstrate Effective listening and customer service when working with others. Excellent customer service skills; including establishing, building, and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction. Professional and courteous interactions with students, faculty, and staff. An appreciation of diversity and the benefits of a commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace. Ethics and integrity. Dynamic, non-traditional delivery methods to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. Experience using computers as an instructional aid in and out of the classroom to enhance learning. Complete applications will screened weekly and continue until the position is closed. Pay The pay for classes depends on the number of credits and instructional mode (lab, lecture or a combination). In general, each lecture credit is one hour a week and paid at $124.76 per hour ($1372.40 per credit). For example, if the class was five credits, it would meet five hours per week and be paid at 55 hours for the quarter and the salary would be approximately $6,862. Each lab credit is two hours and paid at $62.38 per hour. Therefore, if the class was a three-credit lab, it would meet six hours per week a be paid at 66 hours for the quarter and the pay would be approximately $4,117. Other Benefits Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time (7.5 credits for WVC). Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Sick leave is awarded every quarter based on the full-time equivalent teaching percent. If eligibility requirements are met, a comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance. Life and long- term disability insurance plans reduced tuition for the employee; and retirement benefits are also provided. Evening assignments may be a part of the instructional load. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and verified by National Student Clearinghouse. International degrees will be verified for U.S. equivalency. Conditions of Employment The finalist for this position will be subject to a criminal background check prior to the start of employment.
