Variable shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Position Summary The Leader of the Day is the on-course face of the golf course. This role sets the tone for every golfer's round — managing pace of play, protecting the condition of the course, and making sure guests feel welcomed and looked after from the first tee to the eighteenth green. The title is intentional. This is not an enforcement role. The Leader of the Day leads by presence, courtesy, and good judgment, solving problems before they become complaints and keeping play moving without ever making a golfer feel policed. Key ResponsibilitiesPace of Play Monitor pace of play across the course and keep groups on the posted interval. Identify groups falling behind and address it early with a friendly, low-pressure conversation offer to help them find a ball, suggest playing ready golf, or invite them to move up. Track and report pace-of-play data to the Golf Shop so tee sheet intervals can be adjusted based on real conditions. Coordinate with the starter to keep the first tee flowing and prevent backups from forming. Guest Experience Greet golfers on the course, check in on their round, and be visible and available without hovering. Answer questions about the course, local rules, yardages, facilities, and upcoming events. Resolve guest concerns on the spot where possible; escalate anything involving refunds, comps, or conduct to the Golf Shop or manager on duty. Assist golfers with cart issues, lost clubs, water and ice, and locating restrooms or the halfway house. Support tournament and group play by helping shotgun starts get underway cleanly and answering event-day questions from participants. Course Care Encourage and model proper course etiquette: repairing divots, fixing ball marks, raking bunkers, and observing cart-path and roped-off area restrictions. Repair divots and ball marks throughout the shift, particularly on high-traffic tees and greens. Report turf damage, irrigation issues, hazards, broken signage, and cart-path problems to the Golf Course Superintendent's team. Enforce cart rules and 90-degree rules as posted, adjusting communication to the situation rather than defaulting to confrontation. Safety and Risk Monitor weather conditions and initiate the lightning and severe-weather clearing procedure as directed. Respond to on-course injuries or medical situations, provide first aid within training level, and contact emergency services and management immediately. Identify and report unsafe conditions, including standing water, unstable terrain, wildlife concerns, and blind-shot hazards. Address unsafe or inappropriate behavior — hitting into groups ahead, reckless cart operation, outside alcohol, or unauthorized guests — following established escalation procedures. Communication Maintain consistent radio contact with the Golf Shop, starter, and manager on duty. Log incidents, guest concerns, and course issues in the daily shift report. Provide a shift handoff summary covering pace, notable incidents, and course conditions. Qualifications Required Genuine hospitality instinct and the ability to have a difficult conversation and leave the guest smiling. Working knowledge of golf, the Rules of Golf, and course etiquette. Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions independently while alone on the course. Ability to communicate clearly and calmly with a wide range of people. Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a golf cart or utility vehicle. Reliability across a variable schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Preferred Prior experience as a player assistant, ranger, starter, or in golf operations. Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Familiarity with tee sheet software and two-way radio protocol. Conversational Spanish. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors for full shifts in extreme heat, sun, and occasional inclement conditions. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 15 pounds. Ability to operate a golf cart for extended periods across uneven terrain. Vision and hearing adequate to monitor play, spot hazards, and respond to radio traffic. Compensation and Benefits Golf privileges per company policy. Employee discounts on merchandise and food and beverage. Uniform provided. Success in This Role Looks Like Rounds finish within the posted pace target with minimal guest friction. Golfers know who you are and are glad to see you coming. Pace and condition issues reach the Golf Shop before they reach a review site. Tournament and group events run smoothly on the course side. Paradigm Golf Group is an equal opportunity employer.
