$11.20 - $14.34 Dependent on experience and qualifications. Approx. 15 hours per week. Part-Time, Non-Benefited Must be available evenings and weekends. The City of Laramie is accepting applications for an Ice Skating Instructor. This position will instruct youth and adults in the Learn to Skate program, covering levels from beginner through freestyle, as well as skating techniques and presentations. The instructor will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing two ice skating shows each season and will promote the figure skating club, lessons, and the sport of figure skating.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students in selecting the appropriate skates and putting them on correctly. Engage and communicate effectively with students and parents. Oversee student safety and enforce rules on the ice and in the ice arena. Teach skating lessons in accordance with the Learn to Skate program guidelines, as assigned by the Skate Director. Identify hazards and unsafe practices and make suitable recommendations to minimize or eliminate those hazards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying. Ability to work independently. Experience teaching ice skating to children and/or adults. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Able to follow directions and instructions from supervisors. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to ice-related activities. Current CPR certification and completion and certification of First Aid training. High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, a good work ethic, a positive attitude, leadership, maturity, and the ability to communicate calmly. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to recreational activities and to the Ice Arena. Ability to foster and sustain enthusiasm among participants. U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) Certificates. Willingness to continue education as an ice skating instructor. Applicants who are offered an appointment are required to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening test, and driver's license check.
