Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, Contractually Limited Term (CLT) Instructor for the BSSW program in the Department of Social Work. We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring within a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and community-focused social work program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, social justice, and preparing students for ethical generalist practice. This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in social work and contributing to the academic and professional development of students pursuing careers in social work and human services. The instructor will also participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and collaborative departmental initiatives aligned with the program's mission and CSWE accreditation standards. Our Social Work program is currently in the early phases of pursuing accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). As the program progresses toward achieving CSWE accreditation, this role holds the exciting potential to expand the department for future endeavors.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach 3-4 undergraduate courses per semester in social work (topics may include human behavior in the social environment, social welfare policy, research methods, generalist practice, field seminar, and diversity and oppression). Use inclusive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed teaching strategies that support student success. Provide academic advising and professional mentoring to social work majors. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program planning to meet CSWE accreditation standards. Maintain regular office hours and be accessible to students. Engage in departmental meetings, service, and professional development activities. Collaborate with community partners and support field education where appropriate.
Position Annual Hiring Salary Range:
$68,640 - $70,000 Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Requirements:
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited university or college A minimum of two years post-MSW social work experience Demonstrated ability to teach and engage undergraduate students effectively. Experience in social work practice across diverse settings Strong understanding of social work ethics and professional standards Continuous knowledge of current NASW, ASWB, and
CSWE EPAS
standards Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical Social Work licensure (LCSW) or equivalent, or eligibility. College-level teaching experience, especially in BSW programs. Experience working with historically underserved communities. Familiarity with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
