Location:
Quartz Hill We are looking for a kind, dedicated, patient, enthusiastic, and creative homeschool tutor to work with our two children, ages 3 and 5.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 4 hours per day to start, at $20 per hour. Initially, 3 hours will be with our 5-year-old and 1 hour with our 3-year-old. Once our 3-year-old begins TK next year, the hours will increase to approximately 5-6 hours per day. The exact schedule can be discussed. Start date to be discussed. Subjects include Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, and Enrichment activities. We already have our main curriculum, but we are looking for someone who can bring it to life and make learning fun, engaging, and creative. The ability to adapt lessons to each child's age, learning style, interests, and needs is important. Because the children are different ages, we are looking for someone who is comfortable using different teaching approaches and activities for each child rather than expecting the same method to work for both. We want learning to be more than simply sitting at a table completing worksheets all day. We are looking for someone who enjoys using hands-on activities, games, movement, crafts, experiments, books, outdoor learning, and other creative ways of teaching. We prefer limited screen time and hands-on, interactive learning whenever possible. We also welcome a tutor who is proactive and brings their own ideas and resources to enhance the children's learning. If you feel a particular book, activity, project, educational resource, or supplemental curriculum would benefit the children, we would love for you to make recommendations and incorporate them into the learning experience. This is primarily an educational/tutoring position, with basic childcare responsibilities as needed while working with the children. Responsibilities include planning and providing age-appropriate lessons and activities based on our existing curriculum, supporting the children's academic development and individual learning goals, teaching Spanish, using creative and hands-on teaching methods, and adapting lessons to each child's learning style, interests, age, and needs. The tutor will also provide a positive and structured learning environment, bring or recommend additional educational resources, activities, books, and supplemental curriculum, and make suggestions when you feel something could enhance the children's learning. Because our children are enrolled in a charter school, the tutor will be responsible for keeping track of completed work and helping document their learning. This will include taking photos or short videos of completed projects and activities and providing a brief explanation of what was learned, so the work can be submitted as part of their charter school requirements. This will apply to both children once our 3-year-old begins TK next year. Basic childcare responsibilities include assisting with the children's hygiene and care as needed, preparing simple snacks, helping with clean-up after meals and activities, and keeping the children's learning area tidy and organized.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience working with young children in an educational, tutoring, homeschool, or childcare setting is required. Early childhood education experience is preferred. Spanish-speaking ability is preferred, as Spanish will be incorporated into the children's learning. Current CPR and First Aid certification is required. Candidates should be kind, creative, patient, enthusiastic, and have strong communication and classroom management skills. Candidates should have reliable transportation and be comfortable working independently with children when the parent is not present. A background check and references will be required.
