Special Day Class Teacher (Learning Handicapped)
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To provide an educational program for pupils with disabilities that interfere with their learning, and assist other school programs with the amelioration of learning disabilities.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO
The building principal. Receives consultation from District Psychologist and other support personnel.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides an individualized instructional program designed to ameliorate the identified disabilities of pupils with handicaps that interfere with their learning. 2. Teaches Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, and other subjects to individual pupils and small groups of pupils with identified handicaps within a self-contained special education class. 3. Administers individual and group achievement and diagnostic tests to obtain data as to the nature and extent of the pupil's disability. 4. Uses all available information to make an Individual Education Plan aimed at remediating those identified areas of pupil dysfunctioning. 5. Sets both long term goals and short and long term objectives of terminal achievement level for the learning disabled student and the rate of progress in reaching these goals and objectives. 6. Evaluates pupil progress at frequent intervals to determine if the individual objectives are being met; and if the objectives are not met, institutes a more appropriate program to meet the objectives. 7. Maintains written records, charts, graphs, and Individual Educational Plans of pupil performance.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials in order to effectively implement the individual prescriptions for remediation of the pupil's learning disabilities. 9. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 10. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere where instruction is being conducted. 11. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the educational program. 12. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 13. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with the District guidelines. 14. Acts as resource advisor to regular classroom teacher for needed materials and techniques to maximize the success of learning disabled pupil's performance in the regular classroom during the transition or mainstreaming phase of a student's program. 15. Works cooperatively with building staff to ensure maximal integration of the special education program in the total educational program of school site. 16. Plan and assign the work for instructional aides.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Selects and requisitions diagnostic and instructional material; maintains required inventory records. 2. Participates in special education curriculum development programs as required. 3. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 4. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Autism Authorization Application must be fully completed. In addition to completed application, the following items must be submitted: Cover Letter Resume At least two current letters of recommendation (Transcripts required if hired) You will be prompted to complete Target Sketch. Completion is a requirement for all applicants Requirements / Qualifications
