GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Goal:

The Robotics & Coding Teacher supports the mission of Sunnyvale Christian School by providing engaging, age-appropriate instruction in robotics, coding, computational thinking, technology, and problem-solving. The goal of this position is to help students develop creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance, and confidence through hands-on STEM learning while reflecting the Christian values and mission of SCS.

Overview:

The Robotics & Coding Teacher is a part-time position responsible for planning and teaching robotics and coding lessons to students in the elementary school. The teacher will create an engaging, hands-on learning environment where students can explore technology, programming, engineering, and problem-solving through age-appropriate projects and activities. The Robotics & Coding Teacher works closely with school administration and classroom teachers to support student learning and ensure that lessons are appropriate for the developmental level of the students. The individual must demonstrate strong communication skills, creativity, patience, organization, flexibility, classroom management, and enthusiasm for working with children. The Robotics & Coding Teacher shall agree with the Statement of Faith and Core Values of Sunnyvale Christian School.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The Robotics & Coding Teacher shall: Have experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, or working with elementary-aged students preferred. Have experience with robotics, coding, computer science, STEM education, engineering, or a related field. Demonstrate proficiency with age-appropriate coding and robotics concepts and technology. Have experience using or learning robotics and coding platforms appropriate for elementary students. Demonstrate the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, simple, and engaging manner. Possess strong classroom management and student engagement skills. Demonstrate creativity and the ability to develop hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Possess strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to prepare lessons and manage classroom materials. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot basic technology, robotics equipment, and software issues. Have experience working in a school, church, nonprofit, or Christian organization preferred. A degree in Education, Computer Science, Engineering, STEM, Robotics, or a related field is preferred but may not be required with relevant experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

- Essential Functions The Robotics & Coding Teacher shall: Reflect and support the mission, values, and Christian character of Sunnyvale Christian School in all teaching and interactions. Plan and teach age-appropriate robotics and coding lessons for assigned students. Develop engaging, hands-on lessons that incorporate coding, robotics, engineering, technology, and problem-solving. Introduce students to foundational coding concepts appropriate to their age and developmental level. Provide opportunities for students to build, program, test, troubleshoot, revise, and improve robotics projects. Encourage students to approach challenges with creativity, perseverance, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Provide instruction that accommodates different student learning styles, abilities, and levels of prior experience. Establish and maintain a safe, positive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment. Establish clear expectations for student behavior, participation, use of equipment, and care of materials. Manage classroom activities and maintain appropriate classroom discipline. Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback and encouragement. Communicate student concerns or significant academic, behavioral, or social concerns to the appropriate administrator and/or classroom teacher. Maintain accurate and organized lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom resources. Safely operate and teach students to appropriately use robotics equipment, computers, coding platforms, and other technology. Maintain and organize robotics kits, computers, tools, supplies, and other instructional materials. Promptly report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment to administration. Troubleshoot basic technology, software, and robotics issues and seek assistance when necessary. Introduce students to responsible and appropriate use of technology. Integrate opportunities for collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving into instruction. Connect learning activities to real-world applications of technology, engineering, robotics, and computer science. Encourage students to work collaboratively while also developing individual responsibility and independence. Incorporate biblical principles and Christian character development naturally and appropriately into the classroom environment and instruction. Support students in developing character qualities such as perseverance, integrity, responsibility, humility, teamwork, and respect. Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration regarding curriculum, scheduling, student needs, and school programs. Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and families regarding student learning or concerns. Prepare student projects, demonstrations, or presentations for appropriate school showcases or events as assigned. Assist with robotics demonstrations, STEM events, or other school activities when requested. Follow all school policies and procedures related to student safety, supervision, technology use, and classroom management. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students, families, employees, and school matters. Attend staff meetings, professional development, or planning meetings as requested and when scheduling permits. Inform administration promptly when unable to fulfill an assigned responsibility or meet an established deadline. Assist in developing or expanding the school's robotics and coding program. Research age-appropriate robotics, coding, STEM, and technology resources and provide recommendations to administration when appropriate. Recommend equipment, curriculum, software, and instructional resources that may strengthen the robotics and coding program. Participate in professional development related to robotics, coding, STEM education, technology, classroom management, or elementary education. Assist with preparation for robotics competitions or student showcases if applicable. Provide constructive recommendations for improving student engagement and the robotics and coding program. Support the broader program of the school by attending school activities and events when requested and when scheduling permits. Assist administration with special projects involving STEM, technology, robotics, coding, or student enrichment. Perform other duties reasonably related to the position as assigned by administration. The Robotics & Coding Teacher is expected to support and uphold the Core Values of Sunnyvale Christian School.
