A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Make a meaningful impact this summer supporting elementary students in a dynamic extended school year (ESY) program. This contract opportunity is ideal for a fully onboarded paraprofessional ready to work in a collaborative educational environment. Orientation begins July 6, followed by ESY sessions from July 730. You'll assist students Monday through Thursday, 8:0011:45 am, at a welcoming upper elementary campus, providing either 1:1 or general special education classroom support.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a paraprofessional in a school setting Positive, recent professional references required prior to placement Fully onboarded status with completed background requirements Experience supporting students with special needs (1:1 or in groups) PMT (Physical Management Training) certification is a plus (must complete if not already certified) Willingness to complete required onboarding and compliance trainings, including DCF, prevention of sexual misconduct, and anti-trafficking
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized or classroom support to students in ESY, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff Adapt to student needs and educational plans Ensure student safety and model appropriate behavior Attend orientation, participate in mandatory training sessions, and maintain compliance with all district protocols
