Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners.
- Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods and materials accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP goals, providing regular updates to families and school administration.
- Work closely with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and address any concerns.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and update IEPs and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both individual and small group settings.
- Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, engagement, and respect for diversity.
- Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in professional development opportunities. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education for the appropriate grade level.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a middle school setting.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to create a supportive and nurturing classroom environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes and record-keeping.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about current trends in special education.
