A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. Manage daily classroom activities, including circle time, play-based learning, literacy education, math instruction, physical activity, and creative arts. Conduct ongoing assessments of children's developmental progress using standardized testing methods and observational techniques to tailor instruction effectively. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children's progress, behavior management strategies, and upcoming activities to build strong home-school partnerships. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting laws related to child welfare and safety protocols; respond promptly to any concerns or incidents. Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, assessments, and incident reports while adhering to licensing requirements. Skills Extensive knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices in preschool teaching. Proven experience working with children in daycare, preschool, or private school settings; familiarity with toddler care is a plus. Strong classroom management skills to maintain an organized learning environment conducive to positive behavior. Ability to develop creative curricula that incorporate literacy education, math skills, physical education, and social-emotional learning. Excellent communication skills for effective parent engagement and team collaboration. Knowledge of special education needs, early intervention strategies, and behavior management techniques. Certification in first aid and CPR; understanding of childhood welfare laws is essential. Experience with standardized testing procedures and child assessment tools. Familiarity with Montessori methods or other specialized early childhood educational approaches is desirable.
