The Humane Society of Greater Miami (referred to as "Company") is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, advocacy, and support for animals while educating the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

POSITION SUMMARY

We're looking for a caring, reliable team member to help provide daily care and support to the animals in our shelter. The Animal Care Specialist ensures animals are safe, healthy, clean, enriched, and treated with compassion. This position works hands-on with dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments, and helps maintain a positive, welcoming environment for adopters, volunteers, and staff. This is a mission-driven role where your daily work directly improves the lives of animals in need.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide daily care: feeding, watering, cleaning kennels/cages, and general husbandry. Observe animal behavior and health; report concerns to the medical team. Support enrichment and socialization through playtime, walks, and positive handling. Safely handle and restrain animals as needed. Assist with basic grooming and administer medication under staff direction. Greet and assist visitors and adopters in a friendly, helpful manner. Maintain a clean and organized work environment; restock supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with animals (shelter, rescue, veterinary, farm, etc.) preferred. Comfort handling animals of various sizes and personalities. Attention to detail and strong time management. Ability to work well in a team and communicate respectfully. Willingness to work weekends and holidays as needed. Compassion, patience, and a commitment to animal welfare are a must.
