A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Private, non-profit school for children with Autism looking for an

EXPERIENCED K-2 ESE

teacher for a classroom of up to 8 students with autism (both verbal and nonverbal). Classroom skills differentiated by ability; center-based learning (Montessori-style preferred) and hands-on activities a must. Classroom may require teacher to potty-train and/or change pull-ups throughout the day, assist with lunch or other independent functioning normally associate with this age group. Students may also have ABA services while in classroom and teacher will need to work in cooperation with the goals of the Behavioral plan. Communication with parents and professionalism in all interactions required. Classroom size is 6-8 students; individual therapists support student behavioral goals while learning. Candidate will be offered a 10 month contract with a "salary" based pay schedule, four weeks of paid vacation and 12 national holidays during the academic year.
