Immediately Job Description Atlantic Community Schools is seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher to join our talented team. The successful candidate will have a passion for working with elementary and middle level students and recognize the critical importance education plays in the development process of children. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for creating a learning environment conducive to student achievement and development through maintaining high expectations and a high standard of rigor in the following areas: Instruction, Design and Planning, The Learning Environment, and Professionalism. We are looking for a strat II or an individual with a strat I endorsement that is willing to get a conditional license.
Job Duties and Tasks:
Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students. Confer with parents, teachers, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development. Instruct through a variety of methods in one or more subjects such as English or mathematics Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy. Instructs students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and economic self- sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation. Direct and monitor the activities of para-educators
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Communicates and comprehends verbally and in writing. Reads, analyzes and evaluates student performance data and course curriculum. Performs functions from electronic, oral and written instructions and from district policies. Ability to evaluate various written materials, including assignments and tests. Fluent knowledge of IA State Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required Valid Iowa Teaching License
License Endorsement-Instructional Strategist II:
ID Knowledge of IDEA laws and regulations Iowa Fingerprint Clearance background check
