A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Beginning date:
Provides guidance and ongoing support to beginning teachers to increase student achievement and to retain high quality educators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates effective implementation of all Iowa Teaching Standards and criteria. Meets district standards as set forth in the certified staff performance evaluation handbook. Support beginning teacher initial and ongoing induction. Provide leadership in instructional knowledge, methods and materials to beginning teacher. Provide support to beginning teachers in assuming their roles and responsibilities. Maintain professional growth through graduate and/or staff development courses, professional organizations, seminars and/or professional literature. Attend and participate in beginning teacher and mentor meetings. Problem-solve issues with curriculum, instruction, and assessment with beginning teacher. Visit beginning teachers' classrooms and provide feedback. Work in a highly effective and collaborative manner. Complete all trainings as required. Perform other duties as assigned.
