Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Are you passionate about making physical education accessible and exciting for every student? A therapeutic day school near Arlington Heights, IL is searching for a dedicated Physical Education Teacher to inspire and support a small group of K-12 students. This contract opportunity offers flexibility, with options for full-time or a three-to-four-day workweek. You'll play a vital role in helping children engage with sports and fitness in a way that's both fun and appropriate to their needs.
What We're Looking For:
Valid teaching license (LBS1 or regular education license required; adaptive PE certification not necessary) Experience or familiarity with the special education setting preferred, particularly in therapeutic day schools Ability to design inclusive, engaging lessons that introduce students to the basics of sports and physical activity Compassion and patience, with a commitment to meeting students at their individual skill levels Collaborative mindset for working closely with support staff such as paraprofessionals Strong communication skills with both students and educational team members
Expected Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver PE lessons for a caseload of approximately 9 K-12 students in small group settings Utilize existing sports and fitness equipment provided by the district Work alongside a paraprofessional at all times to enhance student support Foster a positive, encouraging environment that motivates students to participate and have fun Assess progress and tailor activities to student abilities and interests Start date is flexible (October 12th or November 9th), continuing through the end of the school year This is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference while working in a supportive educational environment.
