Special Education Teacher - Contract EMIT Learning is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher for an onsite contract position in Coal City, IL , for the 2026-2027 school year . The Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction and academic support to students with diverse learning needs in a school-based setting. The ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) , adapting curriculum and instructional materials, monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate documentation, collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers, and communicating regularly with families. The successful candidate will have strong instructional and classroom management skills, experience working with students with disabilities, and a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Required Credential:

Valid Illinois Education Specialist Instruction Credential (LBS-1) / Professional Educator License (PEL) Key Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging, individualized lesson plans designed to meet the unique academic and developmental needs of students with disabilities, including students on the autism spectrum and those with developmental delays. Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom activities to support diverse learning needs and improve student outcomes. Utilize educational technology and evidence-based instructional strategies to enhance student engagement and learning. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with student needs and applicable requirements. Monitor and document student progress, maintaining accurate and timely educational records and documentation. Collaborate closely with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, general education teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement effective student support plans. Support students through team-based planning, intervention, and progress monitoring. Implement positive behavior management strategies to promote appropriate classroom behavior and student success. Apply behavioral intervention and support strategies to create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment. Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, academic performance, and developmental needs. Qualifications Valid Illinois Education Specialist Instruction Credential (LBS-1) and Professional Educator License (PEL) required. Proven classroom experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an elementary school setting. Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of child development, special education instructional practices, and early intervention strategies. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement positive behavior support strategies. Experience adapting curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual student needs. Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and documentation skills. A strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment.

Pay:

$40.00 - $45.00 per hour
