Job Description

Assessment and IEP Development:
Conduct assessments to identify students' special needs and develop individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to their unique needs. 3.
Instruction and Curriculum Adaptation:
Provide direct instruction, both in the classroom and one-on-one, adapting curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs. 6.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with other staff members, including paraprofessionals and classroom teachers, to implement strategies and monitor student progress. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns. 9.
Classroom Management and Environment:
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities, creating a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students. 12.
Progress Monitoring and Evaluation:
Monitor and assess students' progress towards goals, utilizing data to inform instructional decisions and making necessary adaptations. 15.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and appropriate student records. 18.
Professional Development:
Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in special education. 21.
Supervision:
Supervise students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. 24.
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education endorsement and a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) endorsement. Experience working with students with disabilities. Knowledge of special education law and regulations. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs. Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
