POSITION
Alternative Program Teacher - WorkplaceLOCATION
Arlington High SchoolPOSITION GOAL
The Workplace Alternative Program Teacher will support students in a small, relationship-based high school program designed for learners who benefit from individualized pathways, flexible pacing, and intensive adult support. The teacher will promote student engagement and academic progress through competency-based instruction while fostering the skills, habits, and independence needed for postsecondary success.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid DESE secondary teaching licensure Ability to teach across content areas (History and/or Science preferred); multiple certifications and special education certification a plus Experience working with high school students in alternative, therapeutic, or nontraditional settings preferred Knowledge of trauma-informed educational practices strongly preferred Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build authentic relationships with adolescents Collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach to teachingPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver competency-based instruction aligned to grade-level standards with flexible pacing Develop and implement individualized learning plans in collaboration with students and program staff Teach across content areas using interdisciplinary and project-based approaches Build strong relationships with students to foster trust, engagement, and accountability Implement trauma-informed and restorative practices to support student growth and community norms Support development of executive functioning, self-regulation, and goal-setting skills Monitor and document student progress and adjust instruction based on data Collaborate with colleagues to plan and facilitate the program's daily OMNI block Serve as an advisor, supporting students' academic, personal, and postsecondary planning Coordinate with counselors (e.g., AYCC), families, and outside providers to support student needs Contribute to a structured, supportive program environment centered on student voice and growth Other related duties as assignedTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
