Arlington Housing Authority Description:
Arlington Center for the Arts has partnered with the Arlington Housing Authority to provide free, high quality, monthly arts programming for tenants at 3 sites in their portfolio. Tenants (senior citizens) have expressed interest in themed crafts to match holidays and seasons and we are seeking a teaching artist who would be able to design and lead these sessions with up to 15 seniors each session. Classes are typically 1 hour and take place during the day at each site, scheduled at times mutually agreeable between each site and the teacher. ACA staff will be on site to assist during all programming. All sites are accessible by public transit.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be talented artists and professional teachers with a real interest in creating a welcoming, inspiring experience for all participants. We prefer candidates who have
  • 3 years lived experience working with older adults (we welcome diverse sets of expertise and personal experiences that originate from lived experience, education, and/or employment)
  • experience in developing lesson plans for varying levels of student fine motor skills/dexterity, mobility, and vision
  • Organizational skills and the ability to submit materials on time
  • A friendly, inclusive mindset and enthusiasm for artmaking and crafting
