The individual hired for this position will enjoy working in an elementary school environment, show a positive attitude, and be flexible to lend a hand where needed. The successful candidate will have effective interpersonal and communication skills.- Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education
- Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education
- Supervises and supports paraprofessionals as they implement instruction
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom.
- Establishes, evaluates and maintains data on students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
- Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members to determine solutions.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Experience working with children with special needs in a public school setting preferred
- Experience administering standardized assessments, developing reports, and writing individual educational plans
- Knowledgeable about specialized instruction approaches to address academic deficits and behavioral challenges
- Knowledge of and ability to execute behavior plans
- Able to collect data and formulate action plans
- Effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills This individual will work under the general supervision of the director of student services, building principal, and/or another designated administrator.
