HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE
As a School Paraprofessional, you'll work alongside teachers and school staff to support students' academic, social, and behavioral success. Whether providing 1:1 support, assisting in a general education classroom, or working with students with special needs, you'll play a vital role in helping every student reach their potential.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Support classroom teachers in delivering instruction and managing daily classroom routines across a variety of grade levels and settings. Provide 1:1 or small-group support to students with disabilities or individualized learning needs, following IEP goals and teacher direction. Assist students with academic tasks, organizational skills, and classroom participation. Support students' social-emotional development by modeling appropriate behavior, reinforcing school expectations, and de-escalating conflicts calmly and constructively. Assist with personal care needs as required, including mobility support, feeding, and hygiene, in accordance with individual student plans. Accompany and supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and special activities. Maintain accurate documentation including daily logs, behavior tracking, and incident reports as required. Communicate effectively with teachers, school staff, and Arbor regarding student needs and any concerns that arise during your shift. Follow all school and district policies, RIDE regulations, health and safety protocols, and confidentiality requirements. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a student-first attitude in every assignment. 3. Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or coursework in Education, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 6 months of experience working with children or youth in a school, childcare, camp, or human services setting; comparable caregiving experience considered. Experience supporting students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or special education backgrounds a strong plus. Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred; must be willing to obtain if not already certified. Reliable transportation required — must be able to report to assigned school locations in Northern Rhode Island. Must successfully complete a background check and all screening required by the district and the state of Rhode Island prior to placement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to remain active and on your feet throughout the school day, including walking, standing, bending, and kneeling. Ability to lift or assist students or objects up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor school activities in varying weather conditions. Physical interventions such as crisis support or safety holds may be required depending on the assignment; training will be provided. Must be able to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced, dynamic school environment.
