RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide direct and consultative orientation and mobility services to students with visual impairments in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Assess students' orientation and mobility needs, including travel skills, environmental awareness, and use of assistive technology. Develop and implement individualized instruction to teach safe, efficient, and independent travel skills in school, home, and community settings. Instruct students in the use of mobility aids (e.g., white cane, electronic travel aids) and other adaptive techniques. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers to support students' independence and integrate mobility strategies into daily routines. Participate in IEP meetings and team discussions, providing input on goals, progress, and recommended supports for orientation and mobility. Provide training and resources to staff and families on supporting safe mobility and independence for students with visual impairments. Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, instructional plans, progress monitoring, and compliance reports. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in orientation and mobility training, assistive technology, and visual impairment education.
