A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
St. Mary Catholic School, located in Hagerstown, Maryland , is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Full-Time PreK3 Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The PreK3 Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing daily standards-based lessons that foster the development of age-appropriate skills and concepts across all subject areas. The successful candidate will create a nurturing, faith-filled learning environment that supports the social, emotional, spiritual, physical, and academic growth of young learners. In addition, the teacher will actively engage parents, colleagues, and school leadership in support of the curriculum and educational mission prescribed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Essential Functions Develop and document weekly lesson plans and labs consistent with curriculum guidelines. Provide grade appropriate instructional program within the content of the Archdiocesan Curriculum in all subject areas. Maintains high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teaching of the Catholic Church. Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times and for classroom management. Implement lessons utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge, and engage students. Establish reasonable standards for student achievement, updating PowerSchool grade book weekly. Interact effectively and respond to all parent communication in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner. Participate in all faculty meetings, retreats, school committees and in-service learning opportunities. Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration. Actively participate in ongoing professional development and professional learning communities. Position Qualifications Degree in Elementary Education and/or 90-hours certification. Current MSDE certification and/or 90-hours certification. Experience in a Catholic School setting is preferred. Must be a practicing Catholic. Must be comfortable with technology to include GSuite for Education (including Google Classroom), Smartboards, Chromebooks. Must have a commitment to Catholic School education.
