Possess Bachelor's Degree or Higher Possess Valid MI Special Education Teacher Certification with Endorsement(s): in LD and/or EI and/or CI and/or comparable OR be accepted in an approved teacher certification and training program leading to a teaching certificate and special education endorsement(s). Be eligible for the Full Year BASIC Substitute Permit from MDE (or comparable permit). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Love of teaching and learning with and from students and staff. Demonstrated passion for special populations' students. Possess strong organizational and time management skills. Teamplayer able to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors. Willingness to become a member of a close-knit school family.
The instructor may be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with significant learning and adaptive needs in a functional skills classroom. Develops and implements IEP goals, teaches academic, communication, social, behavioral, and daily living skills, and uses differentiated instruction and evidence-based strategies to promote student independence. Collaborates with families, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, and school staff to support student growth, safety, personal care needs, and successful participation in school and community settings. The instructor will serve as the primary planner and caseload provider for up to 18 special education students. The instructor will ensure that IEPs are properly scheduled, planned, conducted, and implemented. The instructor shall be responsible for documenting and reporting student progress, behavior, and attendance and communicating it effectively to appropriate stakeholders.
